Inspire is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to researching, developing and commercializing prescription pharmaceutical products in disease areas with significant commercial potential and unmet medical needs. The company was founded in 1995 by a small group of scientists focused on the, then emerging, field of purinergic receptor technology. Inspire scientists have become recognized leaders in the discovery and synthesis of nucleotides that activate the P2Y2 receptor. With P2 receptors located on mucosal membranes throughout the body, our scientific research has led to the discovery and development of potential drug candidates for treating ophthalmic and pulmonary diseases. Building on our strong scientific heritage, Inspire has achieved organic pipeline growth through a committed development team. Our R&D focus began in respiratory disease with cystic fibrosis and over the years has included exploration in the areas of chronic bronchitis and COPD. Our work in ocular surface and retinal diseases led to a strategic focus in ophthalmology. We have also expanded our efforts beyond purinergic receptor technology to include compounds that target allergies. In 2004, Inspire entered into a new era with the integration of a specialty sales and marketing organization focused on North America.
